The definite article corresponds to the English “the” and refers to a specific noun or nouns (e.g., “Have you laid the table?”) The indefinite article, corresponds to the English “a/an”. It can also translate as “some” or “any” in Portuguese. It refers to a non-specific noun or nouns (e.g., I bought a book).
